Adult Hello Kitty Hat

A couple people have inquired on Ravelry and here about making an adult sized Hello Kitty Hat. It's just a minor modification to the pattern below. Cast on 80 sts instead of 76, then just follow the pattern as written. The only other change I made was to work the hat in st st for 5.5" instead of 5" before the decreases. Merry Christmas!

VMK Hat

This is a beanie with the logo for Disney's Virtual Magic Kingdom game done in intarsia on the front. I made it for my nephew for Christmas - always good to encourage my Disney addiction in others....lol.

I created the chart for the logo myself. I couldn't get the slant of the logo or the rounded edges but overall I'm happy with the way it came out. I have the chart scanned in, so if there are any other Disney VMK fans out there that would like a copy, just let me know!

Gobble Gobble Thanksgiving Turkey Hat

For Thanksgiving, I knit up with this toddler-sized Turkey hat for a friend's little girl. I made up the pattern as I knit using extra yarns from my stash. All the pieces are knit separately then sewn onto the hat. Modeled by my dancing Stitch in the last photo.

Size 8, 16” Circular Needle

HAT:
CO 78

Join in the round and knit 5 rows 1x1 rib
5" st st
*K5, K2tog repeat from * to end
Knit 1 Round
*K4, K2tog repeat from * to end

*K3, K2tog repeat from * to end

*K2, K2tog repeat from * to end
Knit 1 Round
*K1, K2tog repeat from * to end

Break yarn, draw tail through remaining sts

TAILS:

To make one complete tail feather, knit 2 and sew together with garter sides facing each other. This makes them stiff enough to stand up on their own. I made 5 complete feathers – 2 red, 2 yellow and 1 orange.

TIES:
With yellow yarn make 3 small loops, tying the tail around the edge of the loops to secure. This will give you two small knit-sized loops. Put the small loops on the needle. Inc 1 in first st, K1, then work in an I-cord until desired length.

FINISHING:
Sew tail feathers to the hat, overlapping them slightly. Sew beak to center of hat about 2” from the bottom. Sew waddle at the right side of the beak. Embroider eyes with scrap of white yarn, making pupil with black scrap yarn. Sew ties on sides of hat.

Hello Kitty Hat

I had seen pics of different Hello Kitty hats online, but never found a pattern so I just made it up as I went. Some of the hats I saw pics of were variations of the Kittyville pattern, some were done as a knitalong with Olsofia and some were just improvised. So I wasn't going to post a pattern of how I made this as I didn't want to step on any toes since I definitely didn't come up with this idea on my own. However, some people have emailed me asking how I made it, so I decided to go ahead a post it. This is the first knitting pattern I've ever written out, so I hope it makes sense! Here it goes....

Size 9 16" Circular Needles

Gauge: 16 sts and 24 rows per 4"

Yarns: Lion Brand Jiffy in white and Bernat Satin Solids in maitai for the bow

Hat Body:
- CO 76 sts
- Join in the round and knit 1x1 rib for 6 rounds
- Knit in st st until entire piece is 5"
- *K9, K2tog repeat from * 6 times, K10
- Knit 1 Round
- *K8, K2tog repeat from * to end
- Knit 1 Round
- *K7, K2tog repeat from * to end
- Knit 1 Round
- *K6, K2tog repeat from * to end
- Knit 1 Round
- *K5, K2tog repeat from * to end
- Knit 1 Round
- *K4, K2tog repeat from * to end
- Knit 1 Round
- *K3, K2tog repeat from * to end
- Knit 1 Round
- *K2, K2tog repeat from * to end
- Knit 1 Round
- *K1, K2tog repeat from * to end

Ears:
- CO 10 sts

- Break yarn and draw through sts

Make 4 ears. Sew 2 together with garter sides against each other to make 1 complete ear. Sew ears to top of hat.

Bow:
The bow is made in two pieces. The main body and the center tie.

Main Body:
- CO 18
- Knit in garter st until pieces is about 2.5"
- Cast off

Center Tie:
- CO 9
- Knit 8 Rows in garter st
- Cast off

Sew center tie around main body to make the bow. Then sew the bow to the hat at the base of the right ear.

Finishing the Face:
The eyes and whiskers were done with some black Caron Simply Soft yarn and the nose was done with yellow embroidery floss. Just use a yarn needle to embroidery the face on - the eyes are vertical ovals and the nose is a horizontal oval. I put the nose in the center of the hat 1" up from top of the ribbing. The eyes are located 1" on either side of the nose.
